Raider girls place 5th, boys 9th at Owl Invitational
Both Southern Wells girls’ and boys’ track teams competed at the Muncie Burris Owl Invitational on Saturday.
The girls finished fifth in the standings out of nine schools at the event, while the boys were ninth of 10 teams.
Connersville won the girls’ side with a team score of 125, followed by New Haven (122), Pendleton Heights (107), Northeastern (54), and the Raiders (46).
The boys’ winner was split between Connersville and New Haven with team scores of 115, followed by Pendleton Heights (94), Horizon Christian (63), Northeastern (56), Seton Catholic (54), Muncie Burris (32), Cambridge City Lincoln (19), and Southern Wells (17).
Top-10 individual placers for the girls were:
• Audriana Stuller ninth in the 100.
• Katelyn McMillian fifth in the long jump and seventh in the 400.
• Lexie Fiechter third in the long jump and eighth in the 800.
• Sydney Alstoft third in the 300-hurdles and fifth in the 100-hurdles.
• Brianna Hughett second in the high jump and seventh in the 100 hurdles.
• Brooke Tonner first in the high jump.
Karlee Warner 10th in the discus and shot put.
• Hughett, Stuller, Alstoft, and Tonner sixth in the 4×100 relay.
Top-10 individual placers for the boys were:
• Timothy Garrett seventh in the 800 and eighth in the 1600.
• Joshua Bricker 10th in the 3200.
• Kane Jenkins fourth in the 300-hurdles and seventh in the 110-hurdles.
• Perrin Gates fourth in the discus and eighth in the shot put.
Peyton Long ninth in the shot put.
• Peyton Ellis 10th in the 110-hurdles.
• Aidan Brewster, Eli Elmore, Nick Lozoya, and Kane Jenkins ninth in the 4×100 relay.
• Andrew Aker, Elmore, Jenkins, and Garrett eighth in the 4×400 relay.
Both teams will be competing in the Wells County Invitational at Bluffton starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 13.
Tigers go 1-2 at Howard County baseball Invite
The Bluffton baseball team went 1-2 in the Howard County Invitational at Eastern High School, moving its record to 3-2 on the season.
In the first game, the only one on Friday, the Tigers fell to Peru 8-6.
The Tigers tallied five hits in the game, led by Austin Lewis, with two of them for a team-high, one of which was the lone extra-base hit for a double. Braxton Betancourt had two RBIs in the game.
Griffin Morgan threw 4 1/3 innings and allowed one run on three hits, and struck out two.
In Game 2, Bluffton shut out Taylor 16-0.
The Tigers had 14 hits in the game, led by Andrew Onuegbu’s four-for-five performance as he drove in five runs with two doubles. Andrew Pressler, Eli Garrett, and Betancourt all had multi-hit games.
Andrew Onuegbu got the win on the mound, hurling 4 1/3 innings with no runs, one hit, and four strikeouts.
In Game 3, Bluffton lost 12-6 to Northwestern.
Pastori, Garrett, Lukas Gehrett, Betancourt, AJ Streveler, and Onuegbu all tied with one RBI on the day.
Bluffton will be at home against Manchester at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11.
Raiders swept by Golden Falcons in softball
The Southern Wells softball team took a road trip to Winchester on Saturday and was swept in the doubleheader against the Golden Falcons.
In Game 1, the Raiders lost 10-3. Collena Reeves had a team-high three hits on the day, while Brittany Costello and Hannah Duncan also had multi-hit games.
In Game 2, the Raiders lost 7-6. Reeves again was the top hitter with three hits, finishing six-for-eight in the two games.
Morgan Jones, Duncan, Emma Parks, and Kayleigh Jones all had multi-hit games, with Parks hitting a two-RBI triple.
Southern Wells will travel to Eastbrook at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 12.
Cougars sweep the Tigers in softball
Central Noble swept Bluffton in softball in a doubleheader Saturday on the road.
The Tigers fell to 0-4 on the season, losing Game 1 12-1 and 9-6 in Game 2.
Marly Drayer, in the first game, tallied two hits and was the only RBI for the Tigers.
Averi Petty pitched a complete game and took the loss on the mound, but she also added a double to her two hits with two RBI. Lily King added three hits in the game, including a double and an RBI. Tyrah Shaw had two hits and two RBI, and Xzyia Driscoll added a double in the game.
Bluffton hosts Oak Hill starting at 5:30 Monday, April 10.
Knights’ JV softball routs Golden Eagles
The Norwell junior varsity softball team won in a blowout over Oak Hill on the road 21-2 on Saturday.
The Knights put up 12 hits in the game, 10 walks, and only struck out one time.
Alyssa Krinn and Alli Crow led the way with two hits each. Krinn had a team-high 3 RBIs in the game.
Madison Mashuda had two RBIs and a double in the game.
Kara Brown earned the win on the mound, going four innings strong of two runs (zero earned) on four hits, eight strikeouts, and no walks. Carli Fausz threw one inning and pitched a scoreless frame and one strikeout.
Norwell will host Carroll at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 10.
