Knights win softball season opener over Panthers
Norwell took a blowout win to open the softball season against Eastbrook 19-5 in five innings on Thursday.
The Panthers could not get junior centerfielder Jordan Markley out, as she went five for five with a home run and four RBI.
Delaney Connett, Reese Frauhiger, and Emma Bailey all tallied three hits for the Knights.
Sami Lemler was the winning pitcher, going three innings, allowing three runs on two hits, and striking out four. Kayla Watkins sealed the deal with two innings on the bump in relief, allowing two runs.
Norwell will travel to Concordia starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 11.
Raiders win over Lions in baseball
The Southern Wells baseball team notched its second win of the season with an 8-3 home victory over Liberty Christian on Thursday.
The Raiders (2-1) were led by Caleb Johnson and Wyatt Yoder, who both went 2-4 and drove in two runs each. Kedrik Sonnigsen scored one on a double.
Cody Perdue got the win on the mound for the Raiders with two 2/3 innings pitched, allowing one unearned run on one hit, fanning eight Lions. Wyatt Yoder threw three innings of scoreless baseball and struck out four.
Southern Wells will play at Wes-Del for a 10 a.m. start Saturday, April 8.
Tigers move to 2-0, defeat Blackford in baseball
The Bluffton baseball team improved to 2-0 on the season after beating the visiting Blackford Bruins 15-10 on Thursday.
The Tigers got things roaring in the first two innings off of a Braxton Betancourt home run and another by Brody Lewis. Drew Pressler tripled home three Tigers in the second as well.
Lewis, Kayden King, and Andrew Onuegbu all had multi-hit games.
AJ Streveler got the win on the mound, hurling two innings and allowing three runs on three hits.
Bluffton will take its first road trip of the season with a doubleheader in the Howard County Invitational against Eastern at 10 a.m. Friday, April 7, and 5:30 p.m. the following day.
Braves top Tigers in softball
Bellmont hosted Bluffton on Thursday in softball, a game rescheduled due to weather concerns from Wednesday.
The Braves won the game 15-4, dropping the Tigers to 0-2 in the early season.
Senior Lily King had two hits and an RBI to lead the team.
Bluffton will host Central Noble at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8.
