I sure wish the weather would make up its mind. It’s crazy how it can swing as much as 40 degrees lately. Hot or cold, our summer lifeguard crew has been diligently working on getting the pool power washed and ready for the season. I didn’t envy them working in 48° temperatures last Saturday, but it does make the toads easier to catch.
Next week, we have a new FREE Animal Tracks Matching Game. Enjoy this educational scavenger hunt, May 1–31, while you hunt for pictures of animals and then match them to their tracks. Write down which park you found each animal and its tracks hiding in. Hint, the animal will be in a different location than its tracks, and there can be up to at least two pictures hidden in some parks. Once you have located and matched all the animals to their tracks, you can turn in your form by May 31 to the Bluffton Parks Department office, located on the 2nd floor of the City Hall Building (128 E. Market), to be entered into a drawing for a prize. The Animal Tracks Matching Game form can be downloaded at: https://tinyurl.com/4wpdjwrz, or you can pick up a form from the Parks Department office. Happy hunting.
Don’t miss your chance to sign your child up for the FREE Power Your Wheels in the Park. Bring your tiny racers out with their Power Wheels or bicycles/tricycles to Roush Park on Saturday, May 13. Power wheels will cruise through obstacles set up in the park from 10-11 a.m., then the bicycles/tricycles will race through the course from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. The Power Wheels event is open to children ages 3 to 9 (who can drive the power wheels independently), and bicycles are for children of any age. Each child must bring their own Power Wheels vehicle or bicycle and a safety helmet to ride through the course. An adult must be present with their child. We ask that you pre-register for this event by calling 824-6069 or emailing events@blufftonindiana.gov. Check-in will be from 9:30-10 a.m. for Power Wheels and 10:30-11 a.m. for bicycles/tricycles at Roush Park. It is recommended that you bring an extra battery or charger for your Power Wheels vehicle if you have one.
The Pedal Wells Challenge will run from May 1– August 31. Commit to biking 250 OR 500 miles this summer, either outdoors or indoors; all your miles count. This is excellent motivation to keep pedaling. If you reach your goal, you will earn a cool Pedal Wells Medal. Miles can be recorded automatically on the Strava, OR you can track them manually on our spreadsheet. Everyone who registers earns a Pedal Wells T-shirt and access to our Strava group to connect and share with other challenge participants. The fee is only $25 to participate, and you can sign up online at https://tinyurl.com/u5vp6k69.
