In a special meeting Friday morning, the county commissioners approved a new county insurance policy.
The quote is a combined package of carriers, including Bliss McKnight, Selective Insurance and Chubb. The policy was prepared by Dan Lipp and Danica Dunwiddie of General Insurance in Bluffton.
“We’ve got to rely on you guys to let us know if we’ve insurance enough,” Commissioner Mike Vanover said.
Lipp recommended a different policy, stating that the cost savings in the premium were not worth the higher deductible. Commissioner Blake Gerber and Vanover ultimately disagreed and voted 2-0 on a policy premium of $281,515. Commissioner Jeff Stringer was not present for the special session.
This total was $4,014 less than the original quotes presented at their April 17 meeting.
Looking forward, Vanover asked Lipp to bring quotes with ample time for the commissioners to review and discuss their options. Lipp stated they would do their best, but many of the companies won’t release quotes earlier than 30 days before renewal.
