Bluffton will pay $11,500 to an Indiana company to defeat rust on one of the city’s electrical substations.
Jon Oman, the city’s utilities supervisor, brought two quotes for the work to the Board of Public Works and Safety Tuesday afternoon. Upon Oman’s recommendation, the board accepted the low quote from High Voltage Painting of Greenfield.
Oman said the substation — the Horton Street south facility — was last painted sometime in the 1990s. Upon a recent inspection, he said, “the rust could be to the point where it could be a problem.”
The other bid was received from Energized Substation Maintenance Inc., a California-based company with an office in Medina, Ohio. That bid was $16,900.
The board also granted merit raises to firefighters Caitlin Herndon, Kadin Gerber, and Josh Hall, as well as to Zach Smith who works at the water treatment plant.
