This two-vehicle crash at Jefferson and Mill streets in Ossian sent a Silo Farms man to Bluffton Regional Medical Center Wednesday afternoon. Richard D. Cooley, 58, the driver of the white car below, suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital by Wells County EMS. Cooley’s 2017 Nissan Sentra was hit from behind by a 2018 RAM 1500, shown above being loaded onto a flatbed wrecker. The Ram was driven by Damon B. Dudley, 30, Fort Wayne. Both were northbound on Jefferson Street at the time of the 3:32 p.m. crash. Cooley stopped to make a left turn onto Mill and Dudley, coming up from behind, had dropped his cellphone. He bent down to pick it up and the Ram rammed the Sentra. The impact sent the Sentra up and over the curb in front of the Ossian Branch of the Wells County Public Library while the pickup truck spun around about 170 degrees and was facing southwest toward Heyerly’s Bakery. Damage exceeded $10,000. Ossian Fire Rescue was also dispatched to the scene. Traffic through the busy intersection was maintained and was only held up when the vehicles were removed.
