The Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association announced Thursday that Norwell’s Kelby Weybright would be one of the five members inducted into the Hall of Fame.
“It’s an award that truly represents the commitment and efforts of a lot of people in our community who gave up their time and talents to give kids an opportunity to learn and play the game of baseball and to play it at a high level,” Weybright said.
According to a news release, Weybright was the head coach of the Norwell Knights’ baseball team, had two 3A state titles, two Semi State appearances, four regionals, seven sectionals, and went 243-93 in 11 years.
Weybright is still with Norwell High School, serving as the athletic director.
Other members of the class include former Major League Baseball players Drew Storen and Jeff Samardzija, Brownsburg High School coach Wayne Johnson, and Lenny “Lefty” Johnson, former MLB player and Indianapolis Indian.
The Hall of Fame ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at the Sheraton at Keystone Crossing in Indianapolis, IN.
