The board of the Regional Sewer District  went over a lot of routine items Monday night, and then the board’s president made a surprise announcement.

Mike Mossburg, who was appointed to the RSD board in 2017, read a brief statement at the end of the meeting that he would be resigning from the board effective immediately. He did not give a reason at  the time of his announcement, but said after the meeting that health considerations factored into his decision.

Mossburg was a member of the Wells County Council when he was appointed to the RSD board. He later lost his seat on the council in a Republican primary but remained on the RSD board.

The board is due to reorganize next month, so one of the four other members — Andy Stoller, Leon Berning, Jon Oman, or Bruce Stinson — will have to serve as the  president next year. Mossburg has been the RSD board’s president for at least two years.

The meeting also featured an announcement from County Engineer Nate Rumschlag that Oman had been reappointed to the board by Bluffton Mayor John Whicker.

The board heard from Lewis Brown, the RSD’s superintendent, that notices to connect have been sent out to nine individuals in the  district’s Phase I — Liberty Center and Murray — that they must connect  to the communities’ sanitary sewer network soon. Of those notices, three were not picked up from the U.S. Postal Service. Mark Burry, the RSD’s attorney, said those notices have been returned to his office.

Brown also showed the board examples of notices and refrigerator magnets that will remind first-time sewer users of what can and what  can’t be placed into the system. The board approved the notices.

Ryan Lefeld of Choice One Engineering, in his report, said everything has been approved for the financial aspect of the Kingsland service project.
