Today’s world is filled with doubters and curious souls – those who question the validity of every story they hear or those who simply have to inspect and sometimes try each new fad for themselves. Curiosity and the creativity it inspires are gifts from God, Himself, Whose work in those first six days of creation He was not hesitant to evaluate as, “Very good” (Genesis 1:31).
But mankind’s imagination and inquisitiveness can have a less holy side, as history has revealed. Not only have men with evil intentions set their minds to finding ways to harm others, but many have also questioned the very legitimacy of God’s existence and His claim on their lives. Their inquisitive and gifted minds falsely believed themselves to be totally autonomous and independent of the One Who made them.
This attitude of superiority and the belief that the human mind – apart from God – is the pinnacle of achievement and knowledge also impacts mankind’s spiritual condition. The Apostle Paul warned the early Church that human imaginations could result in complete blindness and confusion (Romans 1:21-22). Even some once evangelical church organizations have begun to trade the inspired Word of God for man-made guidelines. Rather than acknowledging the Bible as divinely inspired, many prefer to identify with current societal norms as the path to enlightenment and salvation.
Jesus left nothing to doubt when claiming that HE is the only way to God the Father (John 14:6). The Apostle John cautioned the Church to test any assertions made in the name of Christ against the words of Scripture (1 John 4:1-3). Paul clarified that the only way to be made righteous before God is to believe and openly declare that Jesus Christ is God’s Son Who lived, died, and was raised to life for our salvation (Romans 10:9-10).
The gift of curiosity and even occasional doubts can draw believers closer to Christ as our findings are measured against God’s Truth revealed in Scripture.
Put your curiosity to good use – seek God through His revelation in the Bible. Be assured: He WANTS to be found! (Jeremiah 29:12-14)
