Construction work on the sanitary sewer collection system in Craigville will start by the end of the month.

Lewis Brown, the Wells County Regional Sewer District’s supervisor, and Ryan Lefeld, the project engineer for Choice One Engineering, both told Monday night’s meeting of the RSD board that VTF Excavation plans to start the construction work before September ends.

That will mark the start of construction on Phase 2 of the RSD’s plans.

Phase 1, which covered Liberty Center and Murray, is now in the process of hooking up customers, but that’s been slow going, Brown said, with 114 connected and 82 not connected. Brown said he will be contacting property owners to get connected as the 90-day window since the end of construction has closed.

Lefeld said that final restoration in Murray has been completed.

The cost to the property owner is about $2,300 to $3,000, said Brown, a former sewer system installer. He said the work installers have done connecting structures to the sewage collection network has been good, saying that no one has complained about the quality of the work on the cost they encountered.

The board, at Lefeld’s request, agreed to move ahead with putting Phase 3 — for Tocsin and Kingsland — out for bids.

Four of the five members of the RSD board — Leon Berning, Mike Mossburg, Jon Oman, and Brue Stinson — were present for Monday night’s meeting. The fifth member, Andy Stoller, was absent.
