Norwell tennis goes 3-0 in NE8, sweeps Bellmont
The Norwell boys’ tennis team won its third Northeast 8 Conference game Thursday night against Bellmont in a 5-0 victory. The win improves its overall record to 8-2.
In singles, the Knights’ Ethan Ottinger won over Dustin Henkenius 6-2, 6-1. Grant Mishler won over Jacob Hirn 6-1, 6-0. Bodie Zimmer won the match in a forfeit.
In doubles, Winson Frauhiger and Brason Chaney won over Bryson Ball and Hayden Huss 6-0, 6-0 for Norwell. Jaden Payne and Jake Hoover got the win over Layne Lemaster and Ben Mendoza 6-0, 6-0.
The JV team did not play. The next event will be the Homestead JV Invite at 8:15 am. Saturday, Sept 10.
The varsity Knights will travel to Bluffton at 4:30 pm Monday, Sept 12.
Norwell golf wins over Bluffton and Heritage
The Norwell Knights’ girls golf team won in its match over Bluffton and Heritage Thursday night.
Norwell led the way shooting a 187, Bluffton shot a 197, and Heritage had a 242.
The medalist of the match was Anna Dodane of Norwell, with a 44.
The rest of the Knights’ scores were Emilyn Heaston (46), Hayden Double (48), Ellie Gatton (49), and Emma Dodane (55).
Bluffton’s scores were Lily King (46), Emma Schwartz (48), Eve Corkwell (49), and Kennedy Nash (54).
Norwell will be at the NE8 meet at Cross Creek Golf Club at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept 10.
Bluffton will be at the ACAC meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept 10 at Celina Lynx Golf Club.
Norwell boys’ soccer falls just short to Bishop Luers
The Knights had a rally going in the second half but just lost by one to Bishop Luers Thursday night by a score of 2-1.
In the first half, Luers dominated the possession and got on the board first with a goal set up on a corner kick to Alejandro Rodriguez on a header.
In the second half, Luers got on the board again with a goal from Joey Juarez to make it 2-0. Austin DeLeon made things interesting with a goal from the left side of the field.
Noab Fromm was active all night, making 10 saves.
In the JV match, Bishop Luers won 4-1, with all goals scored in the first half. The lone goal for the Knights was Jase Harmon.
Norwell’s next match will be home to East Noble in a JV and varsity doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept 12.
South Adams sweeps Bluffton volleyball
The Lady Tigers volleyball team lost its match 3-0 to South Adams Thursday night. The scores of the match were 25-11, 25-15, and 25-9.
The stat leaders for Bluffton were Lauren Reiff with five kills and one block, Maryn Schreiber with five kills, Haley Gibson with 10 assists, Isabella Stout with two aces and Marley Drayer with 11 digs.
The JV team also lost its match 25-8 and 25-12.
The stat leaders for the JV squad were Konley Ault with one ace and three kills, Claire Craighead with one ace and four digs and Lexi Grady with eight assists.
Bluffton will host Woodlan at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept 13.
