Norwell boys’ soccer wins in penalty kicks against New Haven
The Knights boys’ soccer team took it down to penalty kicks Wednesday night against New Haven on the road. The final score ended up being 1-1, but the Knights won with a 3-1 scoring chance after regulation.
The Bulldogs got on the board 1-0 with an own-goal by the Knights.
In the second half, junior Austin DeLeon scored to tie it at 1-1.
The score remained tied for the rest of the game, including the two seven-minute overtime periods.
The penalty kick period began with a goal from Solomon Johnson. Parker Capps of Norwell made the equalizer in the first attempt. Then, a stop from Noah Fromm gave Norwell a chance to take the lead, and DeLeon took advantage 2-1. Another stop by Fromm set up the game-clinching shot from Hudson Gerbers.
Noah Fromm from Norwell made nine saves on the night, not including the two in overtime.
Norwell will head to Bishop Luers at Fort Wayne Sport Club with the JV starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept 8, followed by the varsity.
Norwell girls’ golf wins over Leo
The Norwell Lady Knights golf team won another dual match Wednesday night, this time against Leo by a score of 187-217. The match was taken place at Timber Ridge Golf Course.
The medalist of the match was Norwell’s Hayden Double. Following Double, there was a a four-way tie with a 47 score from Anna Dodane, Emma Dodane, and Emilyn Heaston. Rounding out the scoring was Ellie Gatton at a score of 51.
Norwell will be at home again at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept 8, against Bluffton and Heritage.
Bluffton tennis falls to Carroll
The Bluffton tennis team made the trip to Carroll and got swept in five games against the Chargers.
In singles, the Chargers won with Griffin Martin over Keegan Schwartz 6-0, 6-0. Brian Mason won over Anthony Hartman 6-0, 6-1. Will Rudolph beat Blake Moser 6-3, 6-0.
Carroll won with Matt Kosnik and Conner Gibson in doubles over Preston Daughtery and Drew Pressler 6-2, 6-1. Will Jamison and Andrew Jamison won the other match over Logan Reifsteck and Max Worth 6-0, 6-2.
The Chargers JV team also won their match 5-2.
Bluffton’s two wins came from Kade Abbett over Sam Dinius 8-7 and from doubles team Ethan Hunt and Kaden Grau over Ethan Ratcliffe and George Konder 8-6.
The winning matches from Carroll were Sam Nietert over Nolan Lambert 8-4. Will Distelroth over Braden Lemler 8-2. Romeo Macias over Braden Lemler 6-1. Nick Sciole and Nick Drummer over Ben Maggard and Dane Schlagenhaur 8-3. Luke Williams and Aiden Triter over Jed Logan and Grant Reifsteck 8-5.
The Tigers will open up conference play at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept 8, against Jay County.
