Bluffton girls’ golf wins by three strokes over Heritage
The Lady Tigers tennis team narrowly won their dual-match over Heritage by a score of 190-201 at McMillen Golf Course.
The match’s medalist was Heritage’s Raelyn Mullins, who shot a 42.
For Bluffton, their leader was Lily King, who shot a 45, and right behind her at 46 was Emma Schwartz. The rest of the scores were Kennedy Nash (53), Tressa Renner (54), and Eve Corkwell (55).
Bluffton will travel to Fort Wayne Blackhawk at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6.
Southern Wells girls’ golf wins three-team match
The Southern Wells girl’s golf won against two schools at Wabash Valley Golf Club.
The team scores were Southern Wells 193, South Adams 195, and Woodlan 216.
Grace Meeks and Caroline Ripperger had the team’s top scores, shooting a 46. Kayleigh Jones shot a 48, and Jadyn Yencer scored a 53.
The Raiders will be on the road to Chesnut Hills Golf Club at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, against Fort Wayne Canterbury
Tigers volleyball wins see-saw battle over Manchester in five sets
Bluffton’s volleyball team won their home match over Manchester 3-2 in a back-and-forth game. The scores were 24-26, 26-24, 25-18, 23-25, 15-11.
The stat leaders for the night were Lauren Reiff with 14 kills, Haley Gibson with 36 assists and eight aces, Maryn Schreiber with 14 kills and four blocks, and Isabella Stout with 21 digs.
The JV team also played but lost to Manchester in two sets, 18-25, 16-25. The stat leaders were Claire Craighead with three kills and eight digs, Konley Ault with three digs, and Lexi Grady with six assists.
The Tigers will open conference play at home to Jay County at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6.
Norwell girls’ soccer wins 3-2 over Jay County
The Norwell Lady Knights won in a 3-2 victory over the visiting Patriots.
At halftime, Jay County scored the lone goal to take the lead.
Not long before, in the second half, Grace Mann scored on a penalty kick in the penalty box to tie it up. Makenzie Fuess later scored to take the lead 2-1.
The Patriots then responded with a penalty kick of their own, finding the back of the net and notching things up 2-2.
But the hero of the night was Grace Mann, scoring her second goal of the night and taking a 3-2 win.
The JV squads were also in action tonight, ending in a 0-0 tie.
The varsity team will be in action next at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6.
JC boys’ soccer escapes Knights’ comeback 3-2
Norwell made the road trip up to Portland to take on Jay County, ending in defeat 3-2 despite a second-half comeback.
At the end of the first half, the score was 0-0, looking to be a low-scoring game.
However, Jay County got the first score at 24:51 and followed that with two more goals by the seven-minute mark, 3-0.
Eight seconds later, Austin DeLeon scored the Knights’ first goal, following a second one with 1:19 left to play on a penalty kick 3-2. Despite the two goals in six minutes, Norwell could not tie it at three, ending in a 3-2 defeat.
Noah Fromm for Norwell made four saves on the night.
The Knights will head to New Haven with their JV team for a 5:30 p.m. start Wednesday, Sept. 7.
Lady Knights’ golf defeats Vikings on the road
The Norwell girls’ golf team took the road to Huntington North and beat the Vikings 204-226 at Maple Grove Golf Course. The medalist for the match was Huntington North’s Adalyn Cutting, with a score of 48.
Shooting a 49 and leading the way for Norwell was Anna Dodane. Following her were Nevada Lenwell (50), Emilyn Heaston (52), Emma Dodane (53), and Hayden Double (54).
Norwell’s Ellie Gatton (45) and Huntington North’s Carly Mattox (62) also took the course, but their scores did not tally for the team score.
The Knights will be back at Timber Ridge at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, against Columbia City.
