I don’t know about you, but I sure love a long weekend! If you have extra time this weekend, bring the kids to a park or take a long walk on a trail or two. There is still time to sign up for the Wells County Trails Challenge and pick up a passport to hike 16 trails before November 1st. Participants who complete at least 8 of the 16 trails listed on the back of the passport will receive a Trails Challenge completion medal. You can sign up for the challenge at: https://www.wellscountytrails.org/events.
Speaking of trails, the Wells County Trails group will hold a public meeting regarding the potential of a trail on SR 124 connecting to the existing Interurban Trail (Poka-Bache Connector) on Main Street (SR 1). The meeting will be held on Thursday, September 29, at 7:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Academy of Bluffton (225 Ferguson Park Ct). The purpose of this meeting is to have an open discussion regarding the mobility needs of the affected neighborhood, potential trail routes, trail design, and timeline. All are welcome to attend. For questions, please contact Michael Lautzenheiser, Jr. at wellscountytrails@gmail.com or 260-820-1671.
Good News! We are scheduled to have Lion’s Park Basketball courts resurfaced soon. We are also adding a sidewalk from the parking lot to the pavilion, and both projects should be completed by Sept 16th, weather permitting. The ADA swings we ordered this spring finally arrived and will be hung at all playgrounds as soon as the chains are adapted. The Wells County Foundation generously provided a grant for ADA tables and swings through a G. Robert and Emma Studabaker Endowment Fund. We are so thankful for their assistance as we continue to work towards making all parks ADA accessible.
Our office printed over 2,000 copies of the fall coloring contest with lots of fun activities for the kids listed on the backside. Be sure to check your child’s backpack next week for the paper and return it to the Park office by October 24th for them to have a chance to win a prize!
The next Nerf Wars is coming up quickly! Boys and girls ages 5-16 can join us at the Bluffton City Gym on Thursday, September 8th, from 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. You must pre-register by emailing events@blufftonindiana.gov or calling 824-6069. The cost is $1 per child, and payment is due the day of the event (exact change preferred).
A few reminders:
• Bring a Nerf gun that uses the regular bullets/darts – Not the larger Mega bullets.
• Make sure your gun has your name on it. Many guns will look very similar, and we want to ensure everyone goes home with the right gun.
• DO NOT bring bullets! We have plenty!
• You must bring your safety glasses with you.
• If you bring a gun that takes batteries, please be sure to bring extra batteries in case your batteries run low. We will not have batteries available.
•Parents and spectators can wait in the bleachers of the gym.
