The Wells County Public Library is gearing up for a number of events at the nain library in Bluffton and the Ossian branch.  They include:

•  Polymer Clay: Try It Night, in the Bluffton library tonight (Aug. 29), from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Adults and teens can create their own polymer clay earrings, pendant, or small figurine. All supplies provided. Registration required. Sign up today at wellscolibrary.org or call 260-824-1612. 

 • August Author Night Presentation: Janis Thornton, at the Bluffton library from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30. This is a program intended for adults.

Local author Janis Thornton will discuss her book, “The 1965 Palm Sunday Tornadoes in Indiana.” Thornton will show photos and relay information featured in her book about the 1965 tornadoes that reportedly left 137 Hoosiers dead and more than 1,700 injured. Attendees will be invited to share their own stories from that time after the presentation. Registration is appreciated. Sign up at wellscolibrary.org or call 260-824-1612. 

 • One Book One County 

Adults and teens. A community read program held in September and October each year that aims to create a countywide discussion by encouraging all residents to read the same book. This year’s title is “The Hobbit,” by J.R.R. Tolkien. 

Back to School Night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Bluffton and Ossian libraries. 

School-age Kids. Enjoy a scavenger hunt, get a treat, and learn more about library services. Any child that completes the scavenger hunt that evening with an adult will receive a library coupon.  Our Tail Waggin’ tutor friend, Oria, will also be there that evening. No registration is needed.

• Hobbit Tea & Travelogue, at the Bluffton library from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15.

Adults and Teens. Join us for a cup of piping hot tea, Hobbit-themed finger foods and riddles, while enjoying a travelogue presentation from Cheryl and Betty Maloney about their trip to New Zealand (the real Middle-Earth), featuring several popular stops made famous from “The Hobbit” movies and books. Other ongoing programs include:

Read to Oria — The first and third Wednesdays of the month, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Kids can practice reading to our tail waggin’ tutor, Oria. 

Read to Luna — The second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m. to noon. Kids can practice reading to our therapy dog, Luna. 

Story Sessions — Wee Read, Toddler Time, Story Hour, and Family Story Time. Registration starts Sept. 12 for story sessions at both the Bluffton and Ossian libraries. 

The Teen Advisory Board  meets the last Wednesday of the month from 6  to 6:45 p.m. Teens can get volunteer hours for school and a say in programs at the library. 

Dungeons and Dragons — meets the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 5:30 to-7:45 p.m. Registration is appreciated and the game is open to adults only.
