INCIDENTS

City:

Friday, 3:50 p.m., Wells County Jail, 1615 W. Western Avenue. Inmates threatening to fight. Deputy dispatched. Lockdown of block completed without issue. Then again on Sunday, at 6:37 a.m., inmates in A-block were protesting. Officers and sheriff’s deputies assisted jail staff in separating the inmates who were reportedly causing trouble. 

Friday, 5:22 p.m., residence in the 300 block of West Wabash Street. Caller reported theft of propane tank from a gas grill.

Friday, 5:23 p.m., caller reported some boys threatened to beat up her son behind the Wells County Public Library, 200 W. Washington St.

Friday, 7:41 p.m., 1028 W. Lancaster St. Sinkhole developing in the yard.

Friday, 10:25 p.m., Bluffton High School, 1 Tiger Trail. Caller reported 14-year-old daughter was spit on at the Bluffton-Northfield football game.

Friday, 11:24 p.m., residence in the 700 block of Clark Avenue. Blue 2006 Chevrolet Aveo stolen from residence. It was tracked to a residence on West Main Street in Wabash.

Friday, 11:59 p.m., Jackson Street in front of Lancaster Central Elementary School. Deputy removed debris from the road that was creating a traffic hazard.

Saturday, 12:46 a.m., residence in the 400 block of West Ohio Street. Officers searched the area following a report of a runaway 13-year-old boy. The boy returned to the residence about 45 minutes later. Information taken for a report.

Saturday, 1:44 a.m., Premier Flats, Premier Avenue. Loud drunken people having fun with a shopping cart in the parking lot. Officers responded but the drunks were no longer there.

Saturday, 3:33 a.m., Hiday Chrysler, 1791 N. Main St. Suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. Turned out to be people looking at cars.

Saturday, 10:38 a.m., residence in the 1100 block of South Oak Street. Pickup truck egged overnight.

Saturday, 12:49 p.m., Bluffton Wastewater Treatment Plant, 702 N. Main St. Burglar alarm. Officer responded. Alarm may have been tripped by a strong thunderstorm moving through the area at the time.

Saturday, 7:10 p.m., residence in the 600 block of West Spring Street. Altercation between a man and his ex-girlfriend. The man alleged being threatened and shoved by the woman. She left before an officer arrived. Information taken for a report.

Saturday, 8:27 p.m., 700 block of North Main Street. Large crate or a piece of furniture in the roadway. Officer dispatched but someone had removed the item.

Saturday, 9:12 p.m., apartment in the 300 block of Autumn Court. Loud verbal altercation between a husband and wife after the husband locked the woman out of the house. Officers responded. Situation calmed. Information taken for a report.

Sunday, 1:53 a.m., Auto Zone, 707 N. Main St. Burglar alarm. Officers responded. No sign of foul play found.

Sunday, 10:48 a.m., Life Community Church, 428 S. Oak St. Parishioner fainted during the service. Wells County EMS, Bluffton Fire Department first responders and Bluffton police dispatched.

Sunday, 10:58 a.m., Airplane Express convenience store, 407 N. Main St. Woman had been in the store all night and was now yelling at customers. Refusing to leave. Officers responded. The woman was taken to a residence on Eastmoor Drive in the Bluffton Woods mobile home park.

Sunday, 2:15 p.m., Premier Flats. Caller reported her medication from her apartment taken by a man over the weekend.

Sunday, 8:51 p.m., Pak-A-Sak convenience store, 204 W. Wabash St. Report of a suspicious white male loitering outside of the convenience store. Officer responded and discovered that he had left the Praxis substance abuse facility and was trying to find a way back to Anderson. A room was found for him for the night at The Budget Inn.

Sunday, 9:51 p.m., Eastmoor Drive at Avondale Drive, Bluffton Woods mobile home park. Caller reported a man started to approach his sister but then fell down. When the caller approached the man trying to assist him, he reportedly got up and ran away. Officers dispatched and checked the mobile home park but did not see anyone matching the description.

Monday, 12:02 a.m., Life Community Church, 428 S. Oak St. Report that a 13-year-old girl showed up at the church saying she had run away from home because she didn’t want to go to school in the morning and be bullied again. Officers responded and spoke with the girl and took her to the police department to be picked up by a responsible adult.

Monday, 8:42 a.m., Wabash Central Railroad, 800 block of South Bond Street. Windows smashed out of equipment.

Monday, 9:25 a.m., Habig Trucking and Excavating, 817 W. Wiley Ave. Someone abandoned a damaged Pontiac G6 automobile with no license plate on the back lot of the business.

Monday, 1:25 p.m., residence in the 800 block of Helen Drive, Bluffton Woods mobile home park. Blue-haired man yelling at a woman. Officers responded. The man was warned for disorderly conduct.

County:

Friday, 2:41 p.m., residence in the 1700 block of Fairway Lane. Deputies responded to a report of a verbal domestic dispute between estranged husband and wife. Both claimed that the other person was being threatening, although the deputy investigating noted that neither party was really saying anything criminal. Situation calmed. Deputy recommended that they separate.

Saturday, 11:45 a.m., residence on Meridian Road south of 500N. Report of an unresponsive 81-year-old man. Sheriff’s deputies, Uniondale Fire Department first responders and Wells County EMS dispatched. Wells County Coroner contacted.

Saturday, 12:51 p.m., Ind. 201 south of Ind. 124. Tree blown down in the road. Sheriff’s deputy responded but a citizen with a skid loader had already moved the tree off the highway.

Sunday, 10:06 a.m., Marzane Road near 700N. Black and white spotted dog lying in the ditch appeared to have been hit by a vehicle but would not allow the caller to approach it. Wells County Animal Shelter contacted.

Sunday, 12:30 p.m., Meridian Road near Rose Road. Report of gunshots somewhere in the area. Sheriff’s deputy dispatched but did not see or hear anyone shooting.

ACCIDENTS

City:

No one was seriously injured in this crash on Hoosier Highway around 4 p.m. Monday. Both Wells County EMS and Bluffton Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene. The crash closed Hoosier Highway to through traffic for about 45 minutes. (Photo by Glen Werling)

Monday, 12:19 p.m., Interurban Park shopping center. Alana D. Hughes, 57, Ossian, was exiting a parking space in the strip mall parking lot when she turned her 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 too sharply and clipped a parked 2016 Kia Soul registered to Susan J. Swafford, Montpelier, in the adjacent parking space. 

FIRES

Friday, 8:17 p.m., 2581S-Hoosier Highway residence of Edward Berry and Jaclyn Knueven. Controlled burn of the remnants of a barn got a little out of control. Bluffton Fire Department dispatched and Liberty Township Fire Department dispatched for mutual aid. Liberty advised to disregard. 

Monday, 2:42 a.m., Marcus John Paul and Sarah Marie Reppert residence, 10170N-Ind. 1. Carbon monoxide detector alarm. Ossian Fire Department responded. Source of carbon monoxide detected to a faulty water heater. A reading of 86 parts per million was detected (above 70 parts per million is enough to make a person sick) however no one in the house was suffering from symptoms. Gas to the water heater was turned off and the house was aired out.

ARRESTS

Jennifer Renee Ostovich, 37, Bluffton; failure to appear in court, a Level 6 felony. No bond set.

Tin Thien Aung, 18, Fort Wayne; operating a motor vehicle without ever having obtained a driver’s license, a Class C misdemeanor. Released on his won recognizance.

Colbryn Elius Merritt Miller, 22, Geneva; probation violation. No bond set.

Ya Sin, 27, Fort Wayne; failure to appear in court, a Class A misdemeanor. No bond set.
