Senior Alena Chandler has been selected to receive the Norwell High School ICE Student Spotlight award.

She is employed by Northern Wells Community Schools in the Ossian Elementary School’s Latchkey Program with supervisor Kristina Riley in conjunction with the Norwell ICE program. She is the daughter of Steven and Annette Chandler of Ossian.

As a Latchkey assistant, Chandler’s main responsibility is to ensure a safe environment for the children grades K-5. A big part of safety at the Latchkey is verifying that parents sign their child in or out of the latchkey. Other duties include leading activities and helping the students with their iPads. she works in the mornings from 6:30 to 9 a.m. and also in the afternoons from 3:15 to 6 p.m.

After graduation, Chandler plans to study early childhood education. She plans to attend Purdue Fort Wayne.
