Norwell girls’ golf defeats New Haven

Norwell’s girl’s golf team took the course at Timber Ridge Golf Course in a match with New Haven.  Norwell took the win with a final team score of 199-253.

The medalist for the match was Norwell’s Anna Dodane, who shot a 44. Following Dodane, Emilyn Heaston shot a 50, Hayden Double (52), Emma Dodane (53), and Ellie Gatton (59).

Norwell will go again 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Bi-County Meet. The meet will feature South Adams, Southern Wells, Bluffton, Adams Central, Bellmont, and Norwell.

Bluffton girls’ golf first, Southern Wells second in three-team match

Bluffton and Southern Wells’s girl’s golf team competed at Timber Ridge Golf Course along with Northfield. 

Each team finished close together, with Bluffton on top, shooting a 217, Southern Wells with a 219, and Northfield at 221.

The medalist was Northfield’s Hannah Wilson shooting a 48, while Bluffton’s Lily King and Emma Schwartz finished with a 50. Following King and Schwartz, the scores for the Tigers were Kennedy Nash (53), Tressa Renner (64), and Averi Petty (67).

For Southern Wells, their leader was Gracie Meeks, who shot a 51, followed by Callie Ripperger (53), Kaleigh Jones (54), and tied at 61 were Hannah Duncan and Jaden Yencer.

Bluffton will travel to Mississinewa at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug 24. Southern Wells will head to Celina Lynx Golf Club in a four-team meet at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug 24

Norwell tennis sweeps at South Adams

Norwell’s boy’s tennis team went into South Adams and came back with a 5-0 sweep.

Starting with singles, the Knights Ethan Ottinger beat Conner Hyman 6-2, 6-0. Grant Mishler defeated Gabe Neuschwander 6-0, 6-0 and Bodie Zimmer beat Ian Neuschwander 6-0, 6-1.

At doubles, Norwell’s Winston Frauhiger and Branson Chaney defeated Dulce Sabio and Will Mawhorr 6-2, 6-0. Jaden Payne and Jake Hoover beat Kane Sturwold and Brayden Grandlinard 6-3, 6-1.

The JV team played two matches and won both against South Adams.

Norwell’s Owen Cupp defeated Bennett Hubbard 8-1 in singles. Eddie Archbold and Ignacio Albrecht defeated Bennett Hubbard and Alex Stutzman 8-0 in doubles.

Norwell will travel to Adams Central at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25.

Huntington North tennis beats Bluffton

Bluffton’s boy’s tennis team went on the road to Huntington North to take on the Vikings and were swept 5-0.

The Vikings led off with Max Fusselman at No. 1 singles, defeating Keegan Schwartz 6-4, 6-4. 

The Vikings also won at No. 2, and No. 3 singles, with Braeden Christiansen beating Drew Pressler 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, and Sean Holmes beat Anthony Hartman 6-1, 6-2.

Huntington North won both doubles, beginning with Ethan Zahn and Joe Bowers winning against Preston Daughtery and Blake Moser. The final match was Dale Schweller and Mason Kline over Logan Reifsteck over Max Worth 6-0, 6-3.

The JV team also played Huntington North, losing by a score of 5-2.

Starting with singles, the Vikings Michael Henderson defeated Nolan Lambert 8-3. 

The rest of the matches were doubles, starting with Vikings Matthew Daas and Isaac Grogg defeating Ben Maggard and Kaden Grau 8-5. Then, Bluffton’s Ben Maggard and Kaden Grau played again and beat Dawson Jones and Isaac Pflieger 8-4. The Tigers Kade Abbott and Dane Schlagenhauf defeated Zach Rice and Eli Carter 8-0.

The rest of the matches were won by Huntington North. Quinn Young and Andrew Locmaier defeated Ethan Hunt and David Pence 8-6. Peyton Huff and Aidan Graves beat Hunt and Pence 8-6. Henry Ticker and Landon Pearson won against Jed Logan and Braden Lemler 8-6.

Bluffton will take the road to Winchester at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25.

Lady Tigers lose tight match to Blackford

 The Bluffton volleyball team took the road to Blackford and lost in five sets, 3-2. The scores were 25-23, 23-25, 12-25, 25-21, and 12-15.

Stat leaders for the game were Lauren Reiff with 10, Emma Baumgartner with 26 assists and four aces, Maryn Schreiber with a block, and Marley Drayer with 18 digs.

The JV squad also played and won their match in three games with scores of 25-18, 23-25, and 15-9. Stat leaders for the JV were Tyrah Shaw with five aces, Rylynn Penick with four kills, Konley Ault with four kills, and Lexi Grady with eight assists and nine digs.

The Lady Tigers will be back on the road to Churubusco at 6 p.m.Thursday, Aug. 25, for Jv and the varsity to follow.

Green Valley Senior Golf

Rick Murphy had a low gross of 37 and the low net of 30 in the Tuesday Senior Golf League at Green Valley Golf Course.

Lou Schroeder had the closest putt.

The winning team was Rick Murphy, Lou Schroeder, Rick Oatees, and Mike Bennett.
