I can’t believe that the big yellow buses are making their rounds already.  I’m sure that summer felt short for all the kids, so we are helping sweeten their return back to school with a treat!

State Farm and The Grand Sweet Shop are partnering with us to host a Kiddo Cupcake Decorating event. Bring the kids to the outdoor pavilion at Washington Park for a delicious cupcake they get to decorate from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, (while supplies last).

We had a fantastic end to our Kehoe Concert season last weekend with 876 in attendance at Friday’s Beach Boy’s tribute band, Sail On.  The Sunday Jeep Cruise had 61 Jeeps driving laps through town before our final performance.  After totaling up the attendance of all the shows this year, we saw over 3,793 at Kehoe Park!  We want to send a huge thank you again to all of our sponsors who make this season possible.

The Bluffton Park Board and staff want to congratulate Jeani Klaus, the 2022 Bluffton Parks Department Volunteer of the Year! The Eugene Edington Memorial Award started back in 2001 to honor the dedicated men and women who generously give their time to serve our community. Jeani has worked with our department for many years handing out food weekly at the Farm Wagon, helping at special events, races, and dances. Not to mention being willing to dress up as the Easter Bunny and, ironically, as Mrs. Klaus at Christmastime.

Not only has Jeani been a blessing to our department, but she is also involved with the Ossian PSI IOTA XI Sorority, New Hope Lutheran Women’s ministry, Ossian Food Bank, Wells County Council on Aging, Friends of the Ouabache State Park, and is an active member of the nurse honor guard. She was honored as employee of the year in 2015 during her 40-year career at Lutheran Hospital.

We appreciate all of the caring volunteers who make our department a success. We couldn’t do it without you!

Parlor City Trot — Did you know the first Parlor City Trot was held in 1974? Willie DeFabio had the idea and enlisted help from Glenn Talbert, director of the Police Athletic League, and Tim Licking, who ran Licking Men’s Wear. It was initially scheduled to coincide with the Bluffton Street Fair. According to the first entry form, the course started “from downtown Bluffton in the heart of the carnival aroma and atmosphere of the Street Fair’s Midway, the course heads east out of town trotting past acres of genuine, 100 percent Indiana bean and corn fields intermingled with the fresh air of cows and pigs.”

Join us for the 48th running of the Parlor City Trot Saturday, Sept. 3. There are 13.1-mile, 10-kilometer, and 5-kilometer distances. Sign up now at https://raceroster.com/events/2022/58081/parlor-city-trot

Have a great week!
