The Bluffton Board of Public Works and Safety has hired a new city building commissioner.
Richard Triplett’s name was brought to the board this week by Mayor John Whicker, and the other two Board of Works members — Scott Mentzer and Roger Thornton — approved Triplett’s hiring.
“Richard is highly qualified for this position and is prepared to begin in a timely manner,” Whicker said in the hiring request he sent to his fellow Board of Works members.
Triplett will begin his service to the city on June 20, Whicker said during the Board of Works meeting. Whicker also said Triplett had notified his current employer, WEG Commercial Motors, of his job change.
Triplett’s starting salary will be $28 an hour.
Triplett succeeds Ted Smith as the building commissioner. Smith is the only building commissioner the city has ever had, taking office when the Building Department was created Jan. 1, 2015. He retired last month.
