Before the pandemic began, we used to have lots of fun over the July 4th holiday. Now that it’s been two years, can we still have some fun again? How can we celebrate this holiday and be somewhat safe and healthy?
No matter what your plans are for the Fourth of July, if your health is not good, or if you don’t feel safe, you will most likely not enjoy any of them. Make an extra effort to protect your summer time health while enjoying an extra dose of summer fun. After all, you deserve it!
Especially during this pandemic, one needs to pay close attention to physical and emotional health. Be careful not to abuse your body, your mind, and your emotions during this holiday weekend. And be extra careful not to abuse any relationships.
When things are not safe, healthy, peaceful and calm there is usually added stress. Stress can come from having too much to do, having unrealistic expectations, and racing around to get everything done. Before stress can get the better of you this July 4th, why not decide to protect your health and safety ahead of time? Try a few of these safe “summer holiday” suggestions.
• Slow down a little (physically and mentally).
• Delete one thing from your schedule.
• Pamper yourself too.
• Learn better coping skills.
• Avoid stressful situations.
• Avoid difficult people.
• Don’t allow things to be so hectic.
• Try to react less.
• Set stronger boundaries.
• Set limits on yourself and on others.
• Eat healthy.
• Avoid too much alcohol.
• Bring a mask and hand sanitizer (just in case).
• Be mindful of social distancing.
• Stay home if you are sick.
When we try to respond to others with a little more kindness and understanding, outcomes are usually more favorable. Try not to let exhaustion, fatigue, and burn out get the best of you. Have fun, but try to have safe and healthy fun. Make time for rest. Eat more fruits, veggies, and salads. Drink lots of water. Be a little more peaceful and a little more light-hearted. Play. Watch fireworks. Plan at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. Take your vitamins. And be willing to say “no” sometimes.
Don’t wait! Take control of your July 4th celebration and all other summer fun activities. Take control of your summer health and safety. Start making your summer plans now. And decide to respect your body, your mind, and your emotions in the process.
