County officials unanimously agreed to the addition of a salt storage building to the highway garage project.

During their Tuesday evening meeting, Conor Jackson of the James S. Jackson Co. approached the Wells County Commissioners with preliminary pricing on a $240,000 structure in partnership with Greystone Construction.

Jackson said they considered  Greystone as the best option because the building would be turnkey and come with its own separation walls. Additionally, following a visit to Lafayette’s facilities, Jackson said the best case scenario for the structure was an apex design made with American steel.

While other alternative designs were presented to the commissioners, they ultimately voted in favor of the same plans.

Current estimates show the structure being finished by mid-November, making it available for use before winter weather.

Additionally, Highway Supervisor Shawn Bonar notified the board that pipe repairs were almost completed for the year. He also noted a reminder to the public to be careful driving when workers are present as they continue to maintain ditches during the summertime.
