Commissioners postpone PTABOA decision
The Wells County Commissioners deferred their decision to fill the open position on the property tax assessment board of appeals until their next meeting, July 5 at 5 p.m.
The commissioners said there was a recently-submitted application they had not had the opportunity to review, and wanted to make sure they had time to look it over.
They said this would not affect the PTABOA’s next meeting.
County signs county engineer for two more years
During their Tuesday evening meeting, the County Commissioners approved their employment agreement with County Engineer Nate Rumschlag, continuing his employment with the county for 2023 and 2024.
Additionally, the Commissioners approved a partnership with the Uniondale Fire Department to allow Rumschlag to help them with their 50-year drought study on county time.
The Uniondale Fire Department is conducting this study to receive a new certification and needed an engineer on the project to meet the specifications of the study.
Sheriff gives construction update on the jail
Amid the summer heat, roof work on the Wells County Jail is just over halfway done, Sheriff Scott Holliday said. The project is still projected to be done by the end of the year.
Holliday reported 89 inmates were in the Wells County Jail as of Tuesday morning, including 27 pre-trial holds for Superior Court, 20 pre-trial holds for Circuit Court, 22 Level 6 felons and six from the Indiana Department of Correction.
Recycling center celebrates a successful quarter
During the Solid Waste Management District meeting, Recycling Center Supervisor Kevin Polling reported that 493 cars came by for the hazardous material day.
These drop-offs were taken in addition to regular collections, which have been steady for the center. Poling also reported that, thus far, his staff had had perfect attendance for the quarter.
Looking toward next year’s budget, the Solid Waste District is looking at a slight increase due to rising costs. Next year’s proposed budget will be $237,329, compared to the budget this year of $225,866.
