BHS golf gets 2nd at ACAC
Bluffton’s boys’ golf team shot a 355 at the ACAC Tournament on Saturday at Celina Lynx to place second overall.
The Tigers were led by Keegan Schwartz, who shot a 73 to finish as the individual runner-up and earn an ACAC first team selection.
Ephraim Frauhiger shot an 87 to follow Schwartz and also earn first team honors.
Rounding out Bluffton were Connor Klopfenstein at 97, Kade Abbett at 98, and Alec Reiff at 100.
Heritage shot a 330 to finish as the team champion. Following Bluffton in the standings were South Adams at 359, Jay County at 365, Adams Central at 402, Woodlan at 406, and Southern Wells at 409.
James Foss shot a 93 for the Raiders’ top score, and Gabe McElhaney followed with a 95. Both earned second team all-conference honors.
Also scoring for Southern Wells were Clay Smith at 108, Archer Jones at 115, and Bailey Couch at 113.
Both Bluffton and Southern Wells will return to action on Tuesday with road matches with the Tigers heading to Huntington North and Southern Wells traveling to Northfield.
NHS golf places 6th at NE8 match
Norwell’s boys’ golf team shot a 334 in Saturday’s NE8 Conference match at Cobblestone to place sixth overall.
Augie Mann shot a 73 to lead the Knights, which was the fifth best individual score in the match and earned him all-conference first team honors.
Derek Smith shot an 85 to follow Mann on Norwell, and Ethan Ottinger, Kaden Graft, and Daniel Simerman each shot an 88.
Leo shot a 294 to finish as the team champion. Columbia City shot a 298 to finish as runner-up. Bellmont shot a 310, East Noble shot a 317, and DeKalb shot a 323.
Following Norwell were Huntington North at 334 and New Haven at 459.
Leo’s Isaac Rorick shot a 69 to finish as medalist. Joining him and Mann on NE8 first team were Bellmont’s Winston Brown and Columbia City’s Alex Hedrick at 72, and Leo’s Justin Hicks at 73.
Norwell returns to the course on Tuesday for a home tri-match against Adams Central and South Adams.
Tiger baseball wins twice at Southwood
Bluffton’s baseball team won both games in Saturday’s doubleheader at Southwood, taking the first game 17-7 and the second 15-3.
The Tigers (12-12) trailed 3-1 after one inning in the first game, but took the lead for good with a three-run second.
Southwood scored its final four runs in the fifth inning, but still trailed 14-7. Bluffton added one more run in the sixth and two in the seventh to secure the win.
The Tigers finished with 14 hits, including four home runs. Braxton Betancourt and Andrew Onuegbu each finished with three hits. Each also hit a home run and a double.
Dylan King and Kyler Rolston added home runs, and Brody Lewis and Eli Garrett each added multiple hits.
Betancourt was the winning pitcher, allowing three unearned runs on two hits in 3 2/3 innings of work while striking out seven and walking one.
In the second game, Southwood led 2-0 after four innings until the Tigers exploded for seven in the fifth and eight in the sixth to win early by the 10-run rule.
The Tigers finished with 12 hits. Onuegbu led the charge at the plate with four hits and six RBIs. Rolston added two hits and three RBIs.
Curtis Ellis got the win on the mound, pitching all six innings and striking out four.
Bluffton will wrap up its regular season on Monday with a home game against Peru.
