Bluffton’s girls’ tennis team won its first match in sectional play at Norwell High School on Thursday, defeating the South Adams Starfires 5-0. 

The Lady Tigers (5-9) lost 3-2 to the Starfires earlier this season, but got redemption in their second meeting. 

Monroe Heller won No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-0 Emma Baumgartner won No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-3. Gretchen Crist won No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-2. 

Emily Mann and Madi Fenstermaker won No. 1 doubles 6-4, 7-5. Cadence Engle and Olivia Funk won No. 2 doubles 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). 

In the other opening-round matchup, Adams Central defeated Huntington North 3-2. 

Sectional action continues on Friday with the semifinal round, with Bluffton facing Norwell and Adams Central facing Bellmont.
