When are we going to see some warm weather? It has been cold and rainy for weeks and the teams may just get on the Lions Club diamond here by the time you read this column.
If coach Bruce Dohrman gets on the diamond games may begin and there will possibly be rain outs that I don’t have the schedule for. The Midwest Aces aim to practice on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, April 26, 27, and 28, and then on Tuesday, May 3, the 13U team will play Columbia City at 6 p.m. Come on over and cheer them on.
For information on goings on here in town you can access all Facebook sites.
The Zanesville Lions Club met on Monday evening, April 11, for soup and sandwiches. We were to fill Easter Eggs for the hunt, but thanks to four ladies that showed up and filled more then 1,000 eggs before our meeting, saving us from using up time. Volunteers were Glenda Lenwell, Linda Ratcliffe, Cheryl Tracey, and Pam Whetstone.
The meeting was special as we were installing new members. On hand for the installation were new members Paula Couch Clegg accompanied by her husband Daniel Clegg, Anna Couch accompanied by her friend Jeff Brisighella, and Cheryl Tracey. Unable to attend were other new members Thomas Tracy, Gary Steed, and Cheri Steed who will be installed at our May meeting. We may have several other new members by then. If you are interested in joining please call me at 638-4327.
Lion IPDG Roger Cash installed the new members. After that we were pleased to welcome Huntington Church of Christ minister Scott Reece as our speaker. Scott has had an up and down life that was changed for the better. We want to know what we need to do about those who seem to keep destroying things at the park. Scott is a Homestead High School graduate with two grown sons and a large cat. He instilled in the group that the most important thing you can do is to love those who are doing the damage and help them in any way you can. Thank you Scott for your very interesting program.
Others attending the meeting were Steve Keesler, Robin Phillips, Melba Edwards, and Larry Herron. Herman and Ann Hans aimed to be there but just as they were getting ready to come Herman fell at his mailbox and broke his back. As you read this he has had surgery, went to rehab, and is now home.
The Easter Egg Hunt went off well even though the wind was still a little brisk. This hunt is an annual affair at the Lions park. This year we placed a total of 2,000 eggs and they were all gathered in about 15 minutes by about 50-60 kids. Those kids then came in to the clubhouse where more than 20 table games were set up. They also had free cookies and hot chocolate.
Herman and Ann’s son Scott Hans and his wife and four children came early to help place the eggs. Our granddaughter Emma Edwards took his older ones out to the far south area to hide the eggs. Anna Couch also brought her grandchildren who helped. Charles Martin was dressed as the Easter Bunny for the day and other Lions members were present to help. They were Larry Herron, Melanie Martin, Melba Edwards, Steve Keesler, Ann Hans, Cheryl Tracey.
I usually call Annette Best to help us out but found that she was in the hospital with pneumonia. Since then she hopefully has been sent to rehab and as of now is reported as doing well. Please send up prayers for her and for Herman Hans as he heals.
