Weekly short hikes geared for seniors at Ouabache State Park could become a regular occurrence if enough folks show interest in that happening, it was explained by Thursday morning hike leader Neil Ainslie.

Hikers assembled at the Rustic Oak shelter and hiked the short distance to the Lodge by the Lake. On the walkway, which is graveled, but was leaf covered and slightly wet from the recent rains, the small flowers of Purple Cress were found. Also peeking up through the leaf cover were the stems of some Trout Lilies.

Ainslie will offer this same hike on Saturday, April 9, when he will be joined by his wife who he explained is the wild flower expert of the family. (He explained he is more into zoology while their son covers the geology questions.)

For the time being the hikes will most likely be held on Saturdays and be about 40 minutes in length. Also in the plans is a once a month hike-like experience for those with limited mobility.

For up to date information on the hikes the Friends of Ouabache State Park’s Facebook page will be updated.
