Tiger baseball splits DH at Mississinewa

The Bluffton Tigers split a doubleheader at Mississinewa on Saturday, winning the first game 15-4 and losing the second game 13-2.

The Tigers (6-4) were led by Dylan King at the plate with four hits in the first game. Curtis Ellis and Eli Garrett each added two, and Brock Drayer drove in three runs. 

Ellis also pitched 3 2/3 innings and struck out six to lead Bluffton on the mound. Grant Thompson pitched 2 1/3 innings and struck out one. 

In the second game, Andrew Onuegbu had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Tigers at the plate. On the mound, Kyler Rolston struck out four in two innings of work. Drayer followed in the strikeout column with three. 

The Tigers are back on the diamond at Southern Wells on Tuesday.

Southern Wells loses softball DH to Wes-Del

The Southern Wells Lady Raiders lost both games of a home softball doubleheader on Saturday to Wes-Del. 

Southern Wells (4-7) lost the first game 9-1 and only managed to get six hits at the plate. Wes-Del took a 2-1 lead after the first inning, added three runs in the third, and one run in each of the final four innings. 

Riley Tappy went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Raiders at the plate and scored her team’s only run. She also suffered the loss on the mound, allowing four earned runs on 15 hits while striking out three and walking five. 

The Raiders hit better in the second game, but still came up short 10-6. They led 1-0 after the first inning, but trailed 9-1 by the end of the fourth. 

Southern Wells outscored its visitors 5-1 over the final two innings, but it was well short of a comeback attempt. 

The Raiders totaled 14 hits at the plate, with Tappy leading the way again. She went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs, and one run scored. Catalina Tucker, Yazmine Tucker, Cheyenne Neuenschwander, and Collena Reeves each added two hits. 

Kayleigh Jones, Dhapne Gallegos, and Maddy Sutton handled the pitching for Southern Wells. Jones allowed six runs (four earned) on six hits in one inning, Gallegos allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit in two innings, and Sutton allowed two runs on two hits in four innings. 

The Raiders’ next game will be at home on Monday against South Side. 

Norwell JV baseball team defeats Wabash 2 times

Norwell’s JV baseball team dominated Wabash in both games of Saturday’s doubleheader, winning 22-0 and 20-0. 

Philip Gaier started on the mound for Norwell in the first game and struck out eight and walked two in four innings. 

Cohen Bailey and Collin Burns both had two hits at the plate and one home run apiece. Adam McBride and Noah Turk both went 3-for-3, and Cooper Sloan and Gaier added two hits each as well. 

In the second game, Noah Turk threw four hitless innings while striking out seven and walking one. 

Sloan went 4-for-4 at the plate for Norwell, while McBride went 2-for-2 with five RBIs. Korben Neuenschwander had two hits and three RBIs, and Garry Riley picked up two hits also, including a triple.
