Norwell Middle School’s seventh-grade band and eighth-grade band both earned Gold ratings at the Indiana State School Music contest last month.
Band members had to learn three concert band pieces. They began rehearsing their music at the beginning of January.
When the students arrived for the March 1 comopetition at Paul Harding High School, they were given a specific warm-up time to rehearse one last time before taking the stage in the auditorium. Then they were required to perform their three pieces in front of three music judges, family, friends and other performing schools that evening. The students were evaluated in nine different music categories for each piece of music they performed.
To receive a gold rating, students were required to score between a 9-13.5 on each piece of music they performed.
The Norwell Middle Schoolbands are under the direction of Amy Hipsher and Cory Kelley.
