The Lefevre Quartet of Atlanta, Ga., will be in concert at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Gospel Barn of Bluffton.  The Gospel Barn’s events are held at the Hope Missionary Church, 429 E. Dustman Road  in Bluffton.

This group has ties to the famous Lefevre Family and the Rex Nelson Singers, of Atlanta. When thinking of gospel music, LeFevre is a name that has always been at the top of of any list of gospel artists.  The group now includes Jay Parrack, former tenor for the Gold City Quartet.

In 1921, the original LeFevre Trio began traveling and singing across the country and quickly set a standard for quality and professionalism in what would become known as southern gospel music.  Eva Mae LeFevre, who died in 2009, was consistently featured in Bill Gaither videos.

For decades, the LeFevres blazed new trails in gospel music, turning out songs and singers that would become legendary. Their award-winning music allowed them to sing for presidents and dignitaries of the world. In the late 1970s, some thought the LeFevre name would be retired when the trio retired, but in the 1980s and 90s, Mylon LeFevre and Broken Heart became one of the top acts in Christian contemporary music. Once again, the LeFevre name continued to break new ground in Christian music.

Mike LeFevre, the manager of the quartet, is not only a member of one of the most legendary families in gospel music, he has become well known in the southern gospel music field.

LeFevre began his musical career singing with his Uncle Alf LeFevre shortly after the LeFevre Trio retired. From there, Mike went on to sing with The Singing Americans and later sang with Brian Free and Assurance, but he is best known for his seven-year stretch with the Gold City Quartet. He was voted “Favorite Baritone Singer” for three years in a row by southern gospel music fans across the country at the Singing News Fan Awards. Mike, his wife Kathy, daughter Keely, and son Jordan reside just north of Atlanta in Gainesville, Ga.

Doors open for Saturday night’s concert around 5 p.m. Tickets are general admission at the door, and an offering will be received. For more information, call 651-269-2120 or visit www.thegospelbarnofbluffton.com, where tickets may be ordered online.
