I have known Scott Holliday during his entire 20-year career at the Wells County Sheriff’s Office. In the last four years, it’s been a pleasure to know Scott on a more personal level and what a privilege this has been. I used to introduce Scott as my boss; I now introduce him as my friend first and then boss.

I know the decisions Scott makes as the Sheriff are well thought out and are in the best interests of the deputies, confinement officers, and citizens of Wells County. I believed in his vision four years ago and I still believe in him today.

When Scott asked me if I would be interested in being his Chief Deputy four years ago, I was ready to retire. Before accepting the position, I wanted to know his vision for the Sheriff’s Office. He outlined his vision as follows:

— Update our Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to ensure the deputies have clear guidelines to help them while performing their duties protecting and serving the citizens of Wells County. With the participation and input of deputies, this is a proud accomplishment.

— Provide the best possible coverage and response time for the citizens of Wells County by adding one more deputy to the Sheriff’s Office. This was granted this year and we are better prepared to meet the needs of our community.

— Increase the amount of certified in-house instructors by certifying current deputies. Under Scott’s leadership, we now have another emergency vehicle operations instructor, a firearms instructor, and three general instructors. There are also two more deputies interested in becoming physical tactics instructors. Another proud accomplishment for our department.

While Scott is proud to be Wells County Sheriff, what he raves most about is his family. He and his wife, Tara, have raised four children here and now have four grandchildren. Scott is also quite the chef. He has perfected a stuffed jalapeño recipe that people think is restaurant quality.

There is no doubt in my mind — Scott Holliday is the best person for the position of Sheriff of Wells County.
