After several cancellations and date changes the Wells Community Boys & Girls Club’s 5th Annual Banquet fund-raiser was held Monday evening, April 11th at the club.
As guests were assembling music by the Ben Beer musical group was played and Board President Dan Lipp welcomed everyone. A prayer was offered by Gene Bell before the dinner was served featuring the entree and pies from Barb Schwartz catering. Two club members told of their experiences as club members.
Guest speaker for the evening was Ben Sprunger, Bluffton High School’s wrestling coach, who explained he got into wrestling as he was encouraged by a cousin. He also said that wrestling was in his blood and that he considered it “the purest form of competition” that also teaches a young person how to fail. Another asset of being a wrestler, Sprunger explained, would be that it teaches participants how to work hard.
His remarks were followed by an active auction with Pat Carter as the auctioneer. Board members assisted as spotters.
Banquet sponsors included Excel Homes, Family Ford of Bluffton, First Bank of Berne, GTA, Honegger, Ringgger & Co., Laura Kukelhan, DDS, North Eastern Group Realty, Parlor City Cabinetry and Peyton’s Northern. Table decorations were by Fawn Gerber.
Auction sponsors included Dan and Sherry Pfister, Todd and Lori Reimschisel, Cyndee and Dean Fiechter, An Lipp, Mike and Jackie Chaney, Galen and Joan Gray, Orchard Ridge, Chris and Margaret Lambert and TTG Equipment.
Current board members are Dan Lipp, chair; Nick Huffman, vice chair; Pam Gregory, secretary; Doug Lehman, president emeritus; plus Dan Pfister, Ken Ballinger, Todd Reimschisel, Pete Humphrey, Rick Singer and Cyndee Feichter. Vicki Bell is the club’s director.
