The “Bug Exhibit” of watercolors by Bluffton artist Don Skinner will be featured as the Wells County Creative Arts Council’s initial gallery exhibit at its new site— Life Community Church, 428 S, Oak St. in Bluffton.
The exhibit will be featured in the Auditorium Lobby during the “Coffee, Cocoa & Cabaret” opening event to be held on Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12. Tours of the new facility will be given at 6 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday. Stage entertainment will begin one hour later on both days. (Tickets for the Cabaret, which includes entertainment and refreshments, are $15.)
Skinner explains that as a young boy (7, 8 or 9) he dreamed of being an artist but then the dream faded to reality and “the need to eat and things.”
And this is Skinner’s explanation of how he has become an artist.
“So when I retired in 2005, I said to my wife, Cheri, that I would like to be an artist. She sort of looked at me and asked, “Can you paint? “Well,” I said, “I want to try.”
“So here I am today an Old Watercolor Artist painting merrily down the road and painting the roads as I go.”
“One other thing…”Bugs” are part of the landscape.”
Skinner also is known for area landscape paintings and for a series of lighthouses in Michigan. The exhibit will be on view March 8-12, with the gallery hours being:
Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday, 2 to 5 p.m.
