As I write this column we are awaiting a huge snowstorm. It is to be liken to the one we had in 1978. It looks like it is drizzling rain and by the time I hear the tornado siren test at noon it more than likely will be snowing. The siren is tested every first Wednesday.
Today is one of the special days with the date being 2-2-22. It is Groundhog Day and for sure around here he is not going to see his shadow! That is good news as according to tradition if he comes out of hibernation and sees his shadow he returns to his hole for six more weeks of winter weather.
I’m really glad of that as I just got a big raise on my heating bills!

This is the year that residents of the incorporated Town of Zanesville will be voting on three town council members and the clerk-treasurer. In order to vote your choice you will have to be registered and 18 or older. You will register in Allen County if you live north of South County Line/Scott Street or in Wells County if you live south of South County Line/Scott Street. To vote in the primary you will need to get registered to vote by April 4. To vote in the general election scheduled for Nov. 8 you will need to be registered by Oct. 11. In order to put your name on the ballot for the town offices you need to be a registered voter and a resident of the incorporated Town of Zanesville.
To get your name on the ballet you will need to go to Bluffton to the Wells County Clerk’s Office in Suite 201 (260-824-6479) and fill out papers. If you are affiliated with the Democratic, Republican, or Libertarian parties you need to get your name in by noon on Friday, Aug. 1. If you are an Independent you must pick up a petition that needs to be completed and returned by Thursday, June 30.
Those elected will be taking office on Jan. 1, 2023, and holding that office for a four-year term.
Residents will cast their votes for the town election at the same time of the general election on Nov. 8 at their usual voting spot.
