Community members and town officials are preparing to bring back a summer festival in Zanesville this year.
Efforts are underway to host a one-day festival in July with a parade, local vendors and other activities. Jack Blacksten, the newest council member, helped share the news Tuesday during the Zanesville council meeting.
Barbara O’Connor of the council also shared an update on the ongoing master plan work, noting a survey will soon be made public. Some discussion featured ideas on how to get the word out among community members to get them to participate in the survey, which will help guide the town’s future, and ideas included a postcard and sharing information on residents’ utility bills.
Toward the end of Tuesday’s meeting, the election of officers for 2022 was held. Throughout the first part of the meeting O’Connor presided as council president as she did for 2021.
But Blacksten nominated John Schuhmacher as president for 2022 with O’Connor noting she would be willing to serve again as well. Schuhmacher seconded the nomination of himself, leading to Schuhmacher being approved as the new president.
When it came time to name the vice president, Schuhmacher nominated Blacksten. This was Blacksten’s second meeting as a town council member.
O’Connor objected, noting Blacksten was new and she didn’t think the nomination was appropriate. Schuhmacher countered, saying Blacksten has leadership experience and can handle the job. Blacksten seconded his own nomination. He will now serve as vice president for 2022.
