Monday’s scheduled hearing of the county’s property tax assessment board of appeals has been called off.

Commissioner President Michael Vanover said Friday that after speaking with County Attorney Colin Andrews, the meeting that was to be held of the PTABOA to further discuss recently appealed assessments will not be held.

Vanover said the plan is to hold an emergency meeting with the PTABOA members to discuss concerns the commissioners have following alleged misconduct. It is unclear yet if this emergency meeting will be able to be held publicly or will be held in an executive session that’s closed to the public.

Earlier this week the commissioners approved the suspension of their two appointments to the PTABOA in order to prevent a quorum for the PTABOA meeting that was scheduled for Monday.

The commissioners’ newest appointment to the PTABOA, Chandler Gerber, shared details of what he has witnessed since joining the board about five weeks ago. Vanover described the alleged misconduct, including actions by the other two board members and the county assessor, as “disturbing.”

The allegations include falsifying records and overriding the PTABOA’s recent appeals decisions,  reportedly resulting in higher assessments for the property owners who appealed.
