City:

Tuesday, 9:22 a.m., residence in the 700 block of North Main Street. Caller reported someone defrauded the caller’s checking account out of $4,000.

County:

Monday, 1:46 p.m., Ind. 1 near 450S. Deputy briefly provided traffic control after spotting some men reloading a ladder that blew off a work van.

Monday, 2:52 p.m., Hoosier Highway at 400S. Car slid off the road into the ditch. Driver suffered minor injuries, but declined transport to the hospital by Wells County EMS, which had been dispatched to the scene. No accident report was taken as there was little to no damage to the vehicle.

Tuesday, 9:40 a.m., sheriff’s deputy assisted a semi driver get to the large parking lot at Irish Acres on Ind. 1 south of Ossian after the semi’s brakes failed.

Tuesday, 9:55 a.m., 550N near 100E. Caller reported a farmer was hauling two wagons of grain to market when the trailing wagons broke loose and was now blocking the road.

Ossian:

Monday, 5:13 p.m., Jefferson Street at Mill Street. Ossian police officer assisted a motorist whose vehicle was out of gas.

ACCIDENTS

City:

Monday, 11:37 a.m., Main Street at Wabash Street. At the time of the crash, the traffic signal at the intersection was not operational. Although stop signs were posted only on Wabash Street at the time, many drivers passing through the intersection have been treating the unlit signal as a four-way stop per the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles protocol on signals that are temporarily unlit. Douglas L. Campbell, 58, Bluffton, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck south on Main Street. Jamee L. Humphrey, 35, Bluffton, was driving a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan west on Wabash Street. Campbell continued into the intersection without stopping and crashed into the side of the van. No one was injured. Damage exceeded $5,000.

County:

Monday, 5:02 p.m., 300W at 800S. Krista Westfall, 17, Liberty Center, was driving a 2001 Chrysler 300 north on 300W when the car slid out of control on the snow-packed roadway, slid off the road into a ditch and rolled, landing on its wheels near the southwest corner of the intersection. No injuries were reported, however Wells County EMS was dispatched to the scene. Damage exceeded $5,000.

Tuesday, 7:15 a.m., Hoosier Highway northeast of 500S. Katherine A. Davidson, 42, rural Poneto, hit a deer with her 2014 Chevrolet Malibu. Damage to the car exceeded $1,000.
