The saga of traffic control at the intersection of Main and Wabash streets will go on for a while longer.

The red, yellow, and green traffic lights will operate as they should — a contrast to what they were doing a few days ago when they were absolutely non-functional.

The pedestrian control lights, on the other hand, are out of commission for the time being.

Mayor John Whicker said representatives of the Indiana Department of Transportation told Bluffton Street Commissioner Tim Simpson that a wire is broken somewhere inside the traffic control device. INDOT crews found they could keep the traffic lights functional if they rendered the pedestrian lights inactive.

So that’s the situation now.

INDOT crews took the step of putting duct tape over the southernmost walk lights — controlling pedestrian traffic across Main Street from the southwest to southeast corners of the intersection.

INDOT has control of the intersection since Main Street is Ind. 1, a state highway.

Whicker said INDOT informed the city that the repair of the traffic signals will be done sometime in the spring.
