The Jefferson Township Extension Homemakers met Feb. 9. Mary Ann Ripperger, president, opened the meeting by thanking Margie Russ for serving as the hostess.
The Thought of the Month was: “We secure friends not accepting favors, but by doing them.”
The inspiration was read by Russ from her devotion book. “Waiting in Hope” taken from Isaiah 41 relating our life to a life of an eagle — 35 days to hatch, 40 percent die on their first flight trying to fly, the other 60 percent live a life of hope.
Russ led the pledge to the flag and Ripperger the Homemakers Creed.
Roll call was answered by 10 members and a guest answering to, “What three items would you take on vacation?” Answers varied with “money” being the first for many.
The question of the day was asked by Ripperger, “Is it officially President’s Day or Washington’s Birthday?” Surprisingly, Washington’s Birthday was the answer.
The Health and Safety lesson was given by Sharon Jump which related to how times have changed with research and knowledge — in the 30’s to 70’s we didn’t know that lead in paint was not safe, we had friends and played tag, kick ball, etc. and now kids just sit with their cell phones and watch TV, now we have a test for everything although sometimes they are not accurate. Very true comparison to life then and now.
The January minutes were read by Carol Baker and accepted as read. The treasurer’s report was presented by Margie Huss and accepted.
Ripperger read a list of the household uses of salt. Just a few— common to flavor food, rub salt in fruit stain, clean sole of iron with salt on a paper and iron back and forth, sprinkle salt in shoes, let set several days, then shake out, gargle with warm water and salt for sore throat, etc. good information.
A club collection was taken by giving five cents per letter in “valentine.”
Ripperger said she will be presenting the second session to Mentor Moms on “Respect, Kindness, Love for Children, Family and Others.”
Thelma Yager celebrated her 96th birthday on Feb. 6. Other birthdays: Liz Bledsoe on Feb. 7, Huss on Feb. 8, and Jump on Feb. 20. Happy Birthday was sung to them.
