Firefighters made quick work of a fire in one of the apartments in the Valley Park Apartments 320 W. Dustman Road in Bluffton, early Monday afternoon.

The fire was reported by residents of adjacent apartments at 12:10 p.m., telling dispatchers they smelled smoke. No one was in the apartment at time.

Firefighters arrived and discovered a fire in the bedroom of the apartment, which was No. 7 on the west side of the apartment complex. The fire was quickly brought under control, but what caused the fire is unknown.

Two dogs suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to a veterinarian for treatment. No person was injured fighting the fire.

Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour and a half. The Ossian Fire Department was paged for mutual aid but were advised to disregard after the fire was brought under control.

The fire left the apartment uninhabitable and the Red Cross was requested to provide assistance for the apartment dweller.
