Carol S. Engle, 84, of rural Bluffton, passed away on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 29, 2026, at Ossian Health Care.

Carol was born on Oct. 21, 1941, in Wells County, to Hubert “Jerry” N. and Clara (Wasson) Wheeler. She graduated from Hartford Township School in Adams County, with the class of 1959. Following graduation, she received her associate’s degree from Elkhart Technical School.
On April 20, 1963, Carol and Don Engle were married at Old Salem United Methodist Church. Together, Carol and Don were a team on the family farm. They were avid supporters of the Wells County 4-H Program, where they were members of the 4-H Association and the 4-H Council. They shared 56 years of marriage prior to his passing on March 10, 2019. Carol was active in the JT5 Home Extension, where she obtained the title of Homemaker of the Year. Carol was active on the Soybean Board and traveled around to educate others about soybeans. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church and Crescent Chapter of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her children, Jill A. Engle of Fort Wayne, Tim (Michelle) Engle of Bluffton and Janet Leiser of Burlington, Kansas; along with five grandchildren, Shaye (Dustin) Higgins, Shelby (Kyle) Fisher, Sadie (Pedro) Silva, Lindsey (Max) Kaplan and Jake Leiser; and six great-grandchildren, Ryker Engle, Granger Higgins, Cambrie Higgins, Emmalyn Higgins, Braxtyn Higgins and Clara Kaplan. She will be remembered by her sister, Kay Wheeler of Fort Wayne.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; a brother, Kelly Wheeler; and a sister, Nancy Schooley.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, at Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home with Pastor Clark Stoller officiating. Burial will be at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, and for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
