Dwight K. “Ike” Huffman, 83, of rural Markle, passed away on Monday afternoon, Sept. 15, 2025, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Ike was born on July 14, 1942, in Bluffton to Clyde and Mary (Thompson) Huffman. After graduating from Liberty Center High School in 1960, Ike worked for 45 years as a rural fuel delivery driver around Liberty Center and Bluffton with National Oil & Gas. A longtime member of Boehmer Church, Ike loved to go coon hunting and was a longtime member of the Wells County Coon Hunters Club. He was a huge Purdue basketball and Cincinnati Reds fan. He was a long-time supporter of the Wells County 4-H Cattle program and made many friends showing cattle around the country. Most of all, Ike enjoyed his grandchildren and attending their ball games.
On Oct. 19, 1963, in Ossian, Ike and Gay Lynn (Walker) were married. They were married for 37 years before she preceded him in death on Oct. 14, 2000.
Survivors include his three sons: Brent D. (Deb) Huffman of Bluffton, Greg D. (Kim) Huffman of rural Warren and Matt C. (Chad Blumenherst) of Fort Wayne. He was a loving grandpa to six grandsons, Kurt, Kyle, Nick, Travis, Evan and Mason, along with three great-grandchildren; Delaney, Stetson and Berkley Huffman. Ike is also survived by a sister-in-law, Sarah Huffman of Liberty Center along with nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Gay Lynn, and a brother, Carl Darrell Huffman.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home with Jeff Lemler officiating. Burial will follow at Mossburg Cemetery in Liberty Center.
Visitation will take place from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be made in Ike’s memory to the Wells County 4-H for the Cattle & Hog Barns Maintenance Fund.
