Dr. Beverly Sue (Barrick) Hunter, 94, of Bluffton, passed away at River Terrace on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025.
Beverly was born Dec. 10, 1930 in Uniondale, daughter to the late Clayton and Mary Ellen (Sutilef) Barrick. Beverly received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Saint Francis College. In 1972, she received her doctorate in education from Ball State University.
Beverly was a passionate educator, spending 32 years teaching for Northern Wells Community Schools. The majority of this time was spent educating the 1st grade students of Ossian Elementary. Beverly was a Global Volunteer, traveling to other countries to educate young children.
After retiring, Beverly would continue to educate, teaching the residents of her retirement community yoga. Beverly was also passionate about singing. She was a member of the Methodist church choir and traveled the world to sing with Sounds of Hope. After retiring in 1995, Beverly continued to travel, often taking cruises with her family and seeing the world. Beverly, or Nene, as she would come to be known by her grandchildren, loved spending time with her family, and writing children’s stories about her grandchildren’s adventures.
Surviving are her daughter, Sue Ellen (Larry) Jones; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bruce Alan Hunter in 2007; son, Jeffrey T. Hunter; sister, Barbara L. Lesh; and two grandchildren.
Visitation for Beverly will be held from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025, at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 West Mill St. in Ossian, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m.
