Two individuals were airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne after a crash on State Road 116 in Bluffton last Wednesday.

According to a press release from the Wells County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle was traveling west on S.R. 116 on Wednesday around 3:59 p.m. and swerved to avoid a vehicle turning into a driveway at the address of a 4320 SE S.R. 116 in Bluffton. The vehicle collided with a vehicle traveling east.

Both drivers and an eight-year-old passenger were transported to Lutheran Hospital with unknown injuries. The first vehicle’s driver — male, 41 —was airlifted from the scene. The 68-year-old female driver of the second vehicle was transported by ambulance to Lutheran Hospital with unknown injuries. The second vehicle’s eight-year-old passenger was transported to Bluffton Regional Medical center and later airlifted to Lutheran Hospital. 

All names were withheld in the press release, pending investigation and notification to the families involved. The WCSD, Bluffton Police Department and Wells County EMS responded to the scene.
