Knights pick up home NE8 win over Eagles in girls soccer

Norwell improved to .500 in girls’ soccer for both the regular season and NE8 records on Saturday.

The Knights defeated Columbia City 3-2, which got them to 2-2 (1-1 NE8) on the year.

Grace Mann netted her team-high fifth goal of the season and was assisted by Addison Roembke. Ridley Sheets and Shae Brooks scored the others.

Maggie Neuenschwander was the goalie for Norwell.

Norwell tied the junior varsity game 0-0 in one half. Emma Garner and Shae Brooks were the goalies for the Knights.

Norwell will travel to No. 8 Bellmont at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Norwell goes 3-1 at Prairie Heights VB invitational

Norwell had a successful Prairie Heights Invitational in volleyball over the weekend.

The Knights went 3-1 in the tournament and improved their record to 5-4 on the season.

Norwell won the first game against the hosting school 2-1 (25-21, 21-25, 15-6). Stats were not given or published online. It won the second game over Bishop Luers 2-1 (25-17, 21-25, 15-11). And won the third game over Manchester 2-0 (25-17, 27-25).

Norwell fell in the final game 2-0 over Northeast 8 Conference foe East Noble (25-10, 25-22).

Norwell will be at Southern Wells at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Raiders go 2-2 in Cowan VB invitational

Southern Wells finished at an even 2-2 record at the Cowan Blackhawk volleyball invitational on Saturday.

The team lost to Southwood 2-0 (9-25, 10-25) and Cowan 2-0 (18-25, 21-25). But the Raiders bounced back and defeated Centerville in a back-and-forth battle 2-1 (23-25, 28-26, 15-13) and Cambridge City Lincoln 2-0 (26-24, 25-14).

Southern Wells is 4-5 on the season after the four-game weekend.

Abbie Powell had a team-high 47 kills for the tournament (115 now on the season) with eight aces and 31 digs. She was named to the all-tournament team. Kila Shelley had 11 kills, five aces and 13 digs. Sydney Alstoft had 51 assists, Kaylea Coffel 16 digs.

Southern Wells will host Norwell at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Tiger boys finish 2nd, girls 7th at Oak Hill Invitational

Bluffton’s cross country teams competed at the Oak Hill Invitational on Saturday.

The Tiger boys placed second overall, and finished just two points behind Fairfield, who had 60 points. Levi Johns was the top runner for Bluffton, finished in second place with a time of 16:32.21 and hit a personal record. Jude Baumgartner came in sixth at 17:06.9, also a personal record. Aidan Graves hit a personal record and crossed him 15th in the finish line with a time of 17:57.0.

The girls placed seventh with a score of 137. Cora Kunkel finished 12th overall with a time of 21:58.5.

Knights, Raiders compete in Taylor XC invitational

Norwell and Southern Wells both were at the Taylor University cross country invitational on Saturday.

The Knight girls were the top team of the four, finishing third overall with 135 team points, sitting behind Zionsville and Homestead. The Southern Wells girls finished 13th. Ashley Tucker and Mia Kurtz finished 31st and 33rd for Norwell, and Marianne Pease finished 61st for Southern Wells.

The Norwell boys placed 10th and the Southern Wells boys 14th. Norwell’s Gage Reinhard was the top runner for the boys at 26th, while Kelton Barr finished 63rd and was the top for Southern Wells.

Bluffton football earns receiving votes in IFCA

Bluffton’s football team enters week three of the IFCA coache’s poll with receiving votes on Tuesday.

It places the Tigers 12th overall based on votes.

Knights fall to Hornets in away boys’ soccer

Angola took down Norwell for its second loss of the season on Saturday.

The Knights lost 2-1 to the Hornets and are now 4-2 on the season.

Kale Fuess got the goal for Norwell.

Angola won the junior varsity contest 3-1.

Norwell will host Bellmont at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Knights fall in JV football

Norwell fell 20-8 in junior varsity football on Saturday.

E.J. Morgan conntected with Cooper Bunn for a 17-yard touchdown pass and then completed a pass to Lance Meriweather for a 2-point conversion to get the Knights’ eight points.

On defense, Grant Shelton and Lincoln Moyer each had a sack. Meriweather with an interception and Mark Golden with a fumble recover.
