On Saturday, some Ouabache State Park visitors prepared to celebrate Smokey the Bear’s 80th birthday by decorating their bikes for a ride through the campground. Pictured above, decorating supplies were provided by Friends of the Park who also assisted with party activities. Below, bikes of all sizes and colors ridden by all ages began a ride through the campground starting at the Trails End Shelter.
Smokey led the parade in a park DNR truck with siren blaring. At bottom, Ouabache State Park’s Interpretive Naturalist Lydia Ade congratulated Smokey on his 80th birthday for reminding everyone that “Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires!” Friends of the Park provided the birthday cupcakes and decorations for the celebration.
