Hubert “Mack” Toliver, 78, of Bluffton, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 21, 2023, at his residence.

Mack was born in Knoxville, Tenn. Dec. 26, 1944, to James and Dorothy Lee (Barrett) Toliver. He married Mary Ellen Bennett in Bluffton May 12, 1970; she survives. 

Mack served in the United States Army from 1962 until 1965 and was a truck driver for 45 years. He was an avid Tennessee Volunteer fan and golfer and was known for his comment “It never rains on the golf course.” He will be remembered by those who knew him as being very intelligent and quick-witted and being a great storyteller.

In addition to his wife, Mack is survived by three sons, William (Lisa) Toliver of Bluffton, Timothy Toliver of Knoxville, Tenn., and James (Erika) Toliver of Bluffton; three daughters, Michelle Toliver of Maryville, Tenn., Katheryn Perry of Bluffton, and Melinda (Mehdi) Zraidi of Bluffton; a brother, Danny (Connie) Toliver of Knoxville, Tenn.; along with 17 wonderful grandchildren and 15 amazing great-grandchildren.

Aside from his parents, Mack was preceded in death by a brother, William Jay Toliver.

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 24, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, followed immediately by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton in conjunction with the United States Army honor guard.
