As I sit down to write this column, I am overwhelmed with so much I would like to accomplish before the end of the year. I’m sure you are too! This world is just too busy!

First I need to report that having a garage sale last week was cancelled. We will try for some time the first of October.

Still happening in Zanesville is the archery program that has been going on for a few weeks on Monday evenings at the Zanesville Community Church of God. The shoots begin at 6 p.m. and ends at 7:30. This shoot is outside and all are welcome to come and watch. Bring a lawn chair. You might have kids or grandkids that are wanting to come next year. This is a good time to check the program out. There is more information at 638-4239.

If you are interested in attending the Centershot Competition Shoot on Sunday, Aug. 27, at the Nine Mile United Methodist, a few miles north of Zanesville off of Indianapolis Road, you will need to bring a lawn chair or blanket to watch the competition between the Nine Mile kids and the Church of God kids. The time is 2 p.m.

You will not want to miss the community picnic sponsored by the Zanesville Community Church of God and the Lions Club on Saturday, Aug. 26. The picnic is held at Lions Club Park at 3088 W. VanHorn Street and the games begin at 3 p.m. for kids of all ages. A free dinner of hot dogs or brats, bottled water, chips or popcorn and dessert will be served at 5 p.m.. A program begins at 7 p.m. featuring local talent singing a medley of music genres featuring Rachel Douglas. This is a free community event for all ages. Bring your family and meet some new friends.

While at the picnic, check out the free library as we have added lots of kids books at the outside door.

Reports on festival: Zanesville Church of God sent $1,500 to Destiny. Zanesville United Brethren Church had 240 kids at their Back to School Bash!

The Zanesville Lions Club has apple dumplings to sell. The dumplings are $3 each and come with a container of caramel. They are frozen and ready to microwave or warm up in the oven. You can pick some up at the community picnic as several Lions members will be there. For delivery within 15 miles or pick up at Zanesville you can call 638-4327 or contact Robin on Facebook. Think about Thanksgiving and Christmas as they will stay frozen and still taste great. We sell many for gifts to the elderly. They make a great birthday present. Proceeds will go to the cash prizes given to winners of the annual Lions Christmas Lighting Contest.

This will be the 30th birthday of the Zanesville Lions annual Lighting Contest. In December 1993 the first place prize of $150 went to Dave Brown for his display just west of the ballpark.

We are pleased to announce that a new senior pastor has arrived in Zanesville taking his appointment at the Zanesville United Brethren in Christ Church Sunday, July 9. We welcome Colin Raab and his wife Myra. The church is located three miles south of the I-469 bypass around Fort Wayne on Indianapolis Road. The church phone is 260-638-4000.
