The Wells County Public Library takes its mission to “provide the community with access, knowledge and growth” very seriously and offers a variety of events each week for kids, teens, and adults.

Summer Reading

The library is “All Together Now” for this year’s Summer Reading. Sign up anytime from now until July 31 for the children’s, teen, or adult program. All ages can earn prizes for reading books and participating in events featuring the togetherness theme. Prizes include Chamber Bucks, Amazon gift cards, children’s toys, books, and more depending on your age level.

Bingo with Jason

D&D Intro for Teens 

At the Main Library (Bluffton): Thursday, July 6: 2 to 5 p.m. 

Grades 6-12. It’ll take a party of hardy adventurers to survive a delve into Gnomengarde! This session is meant for Dungeons & Dragons beginners and pre-made characters and dice will be provided. Registration required.   

Chalk the Block with Kindness 

At the Ossian Branch Library: Friday, July 7, 10 a.m. to noon 

At the Main Library (Bluffton): Monday, July 10, 10 a.m. to noon 

All ages. Drop-in at the library to draw and create messages of kindness with sidewalk chalk. No registration needed.

Calming Coloring

At the Ossian Branch Library: Every Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m.

For adults. Stress busting afternoon featuring adult coloring in a restful setting with soft music and snacks. No registration needed. 

Community Clean-Up at Pickett’s Run 

Tuesday, July 11, 4 to 5 p.m. 

Grades K-6. Join us at Pickett’s Run Park to help us keep our community clean.  Afterwards, walk the trail and enjoy the StoryWalk. Registration recommended. 

Book Discussion: “Women’s Diaries of the Westward Journey” 

At the Main Library (Bluffton): Thursday, July 13, 6:30 p.m. 

Adults. Pick up a copy of the book-of-the-month at the library before the discussion each month. July’s book for discussion is “Women’s Diaries of the Westward Journey” by Lillian Schlissel. Registration appreciated.  

Historical Homes Walking Tour 

Saturday, July 15: 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. 

Adults and teens. Guided walking tour to view the outside of several homes along West Wiley Avenue. Participants will also get to view the inside of one of the homes that was previously owned by a Postmaster of Bluffton. Tours led by Jim Sturgeon of the Wells County Historical Society. Meeting location is the corner of Main Street and Wiley Avenue. Registration required. 

2003 Flood Retrospective Program 

At the Main Library (Bluffton): Tuesday, July 25, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. 

Adults. Doug Sundling will lead a retrospective on the flood that was a seminal event for our community in 2003. Participants can walk through a display of photos of both the 1913 and 2003 floods and share their own stories. The display will be up at the library prior to the event starting the week of July 3. Funded by the Wells County Foundation. Registration appreciated.   

Fort Wayne Museum of Art and Black Pine Animal Sanctuary Passes 

The library has two new passes that can be checked out with your library card to add entry into various museums. A Family Pass to the Fort Wayne Museum of Art provides entry for up to two adults, as well as children under the age of 18 that are at the same address or entry for up to two adult grandparents at the same address and their grandchildren. An individual pass to the Fort Wayne Museum of Art can also be checked out and provides free admission for an adult. There is also a family pass and an individual pass that can be checked out for the Black Pine Animal Sanctuary. The family pass entitles two adults and two children/grandchildren that are ages 18 and younger free admission to a regularly scheduled guided tour offered May through October. The individual pass entitles free admission to a regularly scheduled guided tour from May through October.

For children. Does your child need practice reading? Read to Oria on the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Read to our newest therapy dog, Reddington, on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, also from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.. No registration needed.
