The Southern Wells baseball and softball teams participated in a two-game tournament at Union City High School for the Dylan Williams Memorial Invitational on Saturday.

The invitational was founded by the Williams Family & Friends, bringing “Awareness of sport safety, CPR training and the placement of life-saving AED (defibrillators at youth sport fields,” according to the All-Star Foundation, sent via email.

In the baseball Game 1, the host (and eventual champion) Indians edged the Raiders 6-5.

Bryar Gearheart led the team with two hits and an RBI. Jenson Nusbaumer added a double and an RBI.

Cody Perdue got the loss, throwing six innings and allowing six runs, six hits, and struck out five.

Results for Game 2 were not availible.

Additionally, Perdue earned All Tourney Team honors.

The softball team finished third, with a record of 1-1. The champion was Tri-Village.

The Raiders, in Game 1, lost to Union City 7-0, the eventual runner-up at the invitational.

Hannah Duncan, Emma Parks, and Brittney Costello all had hits in the game, Duncan with a double.

In Game 2, the Raiders defeated Mississinewa Valley of Ohio 6-2.

Jadyn Yencer led the team with three hits. Parks had an RBI triple, and Kyah Thomas added a double and two RBIs.

Parks started and got the complete game victory allowing two unearned runs, six hits, and three strikeouts.

Additionally, Yencer and Parks earned were selected to the All Tourney Team.

Southern Wells baseball team will host Randolph Southern at 5 p.m. Monday, May 1.

The softball team will host Randolph Soytner at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 2.
